Map of Plain Talk Locations

Red:
Those are the states where we are currently operating a Plain Talk site
and in some cases, multiple sites.
Blue: These
are future Plain Talk states that are in the final stages of
laying the groundwork. Most will be running by the end of the
2005-2006 year.
Green:
These states are at various stages of Plain Talk consideration
- in most cases, meetings have been held with the major stakeholders,
and they, in turn, are holding discussions with the key decision
makers and are seeking sources of funding.
Red States: Currently Operating Plain Talk Sites
Louisiana
New Orleans was one of the successful, original sites in the Plain Talk demonstration phase in the 1990s. After Hurricane Katrina, the site may be not be operating until further notice.
California
San Diego is also an original site from the demonstration phase. The program site is operating in a major Latino community in the city – the original site is still thriving, and they have recently expanded to a 2nd site also in a nearby Latino community.
Another site in Southern CA is in Brawley, which was very recently implemented so are in the beginning of the community mapping phase of Plain Talk.
California is a strategically important state for Plain Talk so other sites are expected to develop in the future.
Minnesota
St. Paul represents the 2nd generation of Plain Talk, the first successful replication since the original demonstration sites were established in 1994. The St. Paul sites were started in mid-2003 within the Latino community on St. Paul’s west side.
Minnesota expansion: Everything is lined up for an expansion to Minneapolis this Fall in the city’s Southside, a majority African American community. In addition, there will be an expansion in St. Paul to another site in the Hmong community. We anticipate significant growth of Plain Talk throughout the state, with its shifting demographics, growing Latino population, Asian community, sizeable Native American population, and strong community partnerships.
Georgia
The town of Gainesville is a rapidly growing, semi-rural community north of Atlanta, with a large and growing Latino population; the Implementing Agency is the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (G-CAPP). We're also talking with the Center for Black Women's Wellness in Atlanta about establishing Plain Talk in Atlanta.
North Carolina
The town of Siler City is located outside of Raleigh and is similar to Gainesville, GA in that it is a semi-rural, Latino community, which is also partnering with the teen pregnancy coalition in the state of North Carolina to implement the program.
Puerto Rico
The municipality of Naranjito is a rural community in the mountains. We're also considering a 2nd site in Puerto Rico, through a partnership with the commonwealth's Family Planning Council.
